Science World (officially called TELUS World of Science Vancouver since 2005 ) is a science center -based museum in the Canadian city of Vancouver . It is operated by a non-profit organization and shows permanent and changing interactive exhibitions.

The museum is housed in a geodesic dome designed by Richard Buckminster Fuller at the eastern end of the False Creek inlet . The dome was one of the main attractions of the World's Fair Expo 86 and was followed for 19.1 million CAD rebuilt. The museum opened in 1988, and a year later the OMNIMAX cinema was added in the top part of the dome.

On July 20, 2005, the museum took its current name after the Canadian telecommunications company Telus donated $ 9 million and acquired the naming rights. The new name met with rejection in public. The old name is much more common and the nearby SkyTrain station is still called Main Street Science World . TELUS World of Science is a brand name that includes the Vancouver museum and two similar facilities in Calgary and Edmonton .
