Scotch ale

Scotch Ale is one of Scotland derived Strong beer that originated in British Strong Pale Ale has.

In the 19th century, a strong pale ale brewed in Edinburgh was first named Scotch ale. It was not that different from other British Strong Pale Ales and was only called Scotch Ale because of its specific origin.

On the other hand, "Scottish Ale" is not a synonym for Scotch Ale, but usually only describes the origin of a beer. Scottish ales can therefore also be "normal" pale ales or brown ales.

Manufacture and distribution

When making Scotch Ales, the wort is boiled for a relatively long time so that a lot of sugar is dissolved in the brew. This leads to a dark color of the beer from copper to brown and to a high alcohol content . The beer turns out to be relatively sweet, full-bodied and can have flavors of caramel and roasted malt .

Even today, Scotch Ales come almost entirely from Great Britain . However, some German craft brewers adopt the style for their own beers. Scotch ales are usually very little hopped .
