ScottishPower Plc is a utility company headquartered in Glasgow , Scotland . It owns the electrical grid in the south of Scotland, supplies electricity and natural gas to households and businesses across the UK and also generates electricity for the UK grid. She owns PPM Energy in the USA .
The company was founded in 1990 in anticipation of the privatization of the Scottish state-owned electricity supply planned for the following year. On April 27, 2006, ScottishPower received permission to build Europe's largest on-shore wind farm . The wind farm, with an installed capacity of 322 MW, will cost approximately £ 300 million and cover an area of 55 km² south of Glasgow.
ScottishPower was taken over on March 30, 2007 by the Spanish utility Iberdrola for £ 11.6 billion.
