The sublabial (syn. Sublabialia , Infralabialia ; Singular Sublabiale , actually sublabial scale ), often called lip shields or -schuppen referred are in Schuppenkriechtieren the head scales that run along the jaw edge of the mouth opening. The mental , which forms the front end of the two subabial rows, is not included in this. On the upper jaw, these scales are opposite to the supralabials .

The name Sublabiale is derived from the designation “ labium ” for the lip and the position designation “sub-”.

Like all other head shields, their number, shape, size and formation are important determinants within the snake system .
