The Seattle Reign were a US women's basketball team of the American Basketball League based in Seattle , Washington state .
The Reign played a total of three seasons in the ABL from 1996 to 1998, while they achieved third place in the Western Conference in the 1996/97 and 1998 seasons - although the 1998 season was no longer played to the end due to the dissolution of the league. With the dissolution of the ABL, the game operations of the Reign were also stopped. Shortly after the club was dissolved, the city competed for a professional team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). In June 1999 the city was granted a WNBA franchise. In 2000, the Seattle Storm began playing in the WNBA.
