Restaurant "Zum Anker"

The building at Sebastianusstraße 9 is in Korschenbroich in the Rhine district of Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia . It was probably built around 1500 and supplemented by a roofed extension in 1740. Today it is used as a restaurant and brewery bar "Zum Anker".

The house was entered on August 26, 1985 under No. 030 in the list of architectural monuments in Korschenbroich .

architecture

It is a two-storey house in non-continuous axes , plastered with anchor pins, one side gabled. The windows on the first floor have been changed.

history

The building has wooden beams that are known to be around 500 years old. Accordingly, the house should have been built around 1500. The vaulted cellar was partly built with ashlars made of Liedberg sandstone , which represent spoils from the ancient Roman period. In 1716 the building survived the great fire in Korschenbroich, in which almost all the houses in the town center were destroyed. In 1740 an extension with a gable was added. In earlier times the building bore the coat of arms of Myllendonk , so that it can be assumed that the house has late medieval origins and was the property of the Lords of Myllendonk. The building should therefore be one of the oldest surviving structures in Korschenbroich.

After a fire in 2009, the building had to be completely gutted and the roof structure renewed. During the restoration, two pairs of children's shoes that are at least 300 years old were found in a wall niche.
