Secrétaire perpétuel , secretary for life in German , is a French official title u. a. for the secretaries of various academies in France and the French-speaking world.

Probably the most important position is the Secrétaire perpétuel of the more than 350 year old Académie française , which is currently held by Hélène Carrère d'Encausse . The Collège des Quatre Nations ("College of the Four Nations") in Paris houses the headquarters of the Institut de France , the umbrella organization of the French state academies, and the official residence of the Secrétaire perpétuel .
