Secret Millionaire is a German television program that is broadcast on the RTL television station. It is an adaptation of the US show Millionär undercover, which was produced from 2006 to 2012 . The program Geheime Helfer, broadcast on Sat.1 , follows the same concept as Secret Millionaire.

concept

In the show, a millionaire lives in poverty for a week without anyone noticing that the person comes from a rich background. The local people are told that the protagonist would have to be filmed for a documentary . The millionaires should make as many contacts as possible and explore the place. When the week is over, the millionaire reveals himself and financially supports the people he was most enthusiastic about.

Production and broadcast

The show was inspired by the US show Millionaire Undercover, which appeared from 2006 to 2012. A year later, on April 14, 2013, the program started in Germany and will be broadcast on RTL. The show was produced from 2013 to 2015. It resulted in 12 episodes and 3 seasons.

criticism

The West asks whether the program is really about helping the people or whether it is just "poverty voyeurism ". It is also criticized that the protagonists behave in an embarrassing and naive manner and exploit the program for self-promotion.
