The YouTube Secret Talents Award was launched in 2007 and was last held in 2011. It started in parallel with the YouTube campaign “Germany Star”. The competition serves to promote the creatives of the platform. Users should prove their talent and upload it to the corresponding page. A prominent jury nominated the best of the submitted videos; in 2007 it was a Top 44, in 2009 and 2010 a Top 25 and in 2011 it was a Top 6. These nominated videos are then rated by the YouTube community . The competition ends with a gala (2007 to 2010 in Berlin, 2011 in Cologne) to which all nominees are invited. Here it is announced who will receive the award and thus received the most votes from the community. In addition to the Secret Talents Award itself, places 2 and 3 will also receive an award.
The competition
Phase 1 : All interested parties submit their self-created videos on the official Secret Talents Channel. Videos of almost all categories are allowed. Dance, singing, instruments, rap, comedy or other creative presentations. Before entering the competition, the video is checked on the basis of the conditions of participation.
Phase 2 : After the submission phase, the videos will be viewed by a prominent jury. This selects the best videos from various categories within a short time. In 2007 it was a Top 44, in 2009 and 2010 it was a Top 25, in 2011 it was only a Top 6. These videos are presented on the official channel and in the publication areas on YouTube and supported by advertising campaigns from various celebrities. The YouTube community as well as users who are not logged in can now vote for their favorites.
Phase 3 : After the voting phase , the votes for the individual videos are counted. The announcement of the result will take place as part of a gala show. All nominees are always invited to this gala, as no one will be informed of the result until the announcement in the award show.
The win : The winner can look forward to a funding budget, a professional YouTube channel and contracts in the appropriate category. In addition, he will of course receive the Secret Talents Award himself. Places 2 and 3 will also receive an award.
Changes
Fundamental changes were made in 2011. Although participants can still submit videos in all categories, cover versions are only allowed to a limited extent. The previous preselection of 25 finalists was downgraded to 6 finalists. These are determined by a jury. The 6 top acts will be prepared in a coaching session for a live performance in front of a large audience. All six nominees will demonstrate their skills live at the gala. In 2011, the gala took place for the first time not in Berlin, but in Cologne. She was supported by celebrity live acts. The event was also broadcast live on YouTube for the first time and supported by TV broadcasts on Pro7 . This year the moderators were Joko and Klaas.
