Chronicle of the Dark Forests is a six-part fantasy novel series by British author Michelle Paver . All six parts were translated into German (each by Gerald Jung with Katharina Orgaß and later with Sabine Reinhardus). The novel series is aimed primarily at young people.

The plot revolves around the youthful hero Torak and his friend, a wolf, and the search for the murderers of his father and takes place 6000 years ago in north-western Europe. The first volume, "Wolf Brother", is about a demon bear who kills Fa, Torak's father. Torak has to go to the Mountain of the World Spirit to kill the bear, but has a limited time. On the way to the mountain of the world spirit, Torak has to endure many dangers and gets to know Renn, a girl of the same age, and a young wolf. In the second part "Wanderer of Souls" one of the seven soul eaters spreads a deadly disease. Soul eaters are shamans who try to usurp power with the help of evil demons. When Torak tries to find an antidote for the rapidly spreading disease, he is kidnapped and finds himself on an island. The seal clan lives on the island and initially has reservations, but finally welcomes Torak in a friendly manner. Renn and his friend Wolf (whose language he understands because he lived with a she-wolf for 3 months) find him there. But since Torak confides in the seal shaman and learns that he is a soul wanderer, he puts his friends and himself in terrible danger, as the shaman turns out to be a soul eater. In the third volume, "Soul Eaters", Wolf is kidnapped by soul eaters. Torak and Renn then follow the kidnappers. These go to the north, where Torak and Renn meet people from another clan. Torak and Renn free Wolf, whereby part of the dangerous fire opal is destroyed.
