Sailing club "Hollfast" Rostock

The “Hollfast” seaman's club is a seaman's club of the German Seamen's Mission founded in August 1991 . It is located at the Hansakai in Rostock's overseas port.

history

In 1848, Johann Hinrich Wichern gave the impetus for the foundation of the diaconal works and the German seamen's mission with his speech at the Wittenberg Kirchentag in Germany . The first seaman's home in Germany was founded in Bremen in 1854, the first inland seaman's mission was founded in Hamburg in 1891 .

Born in Rostock, Martin Elias Harms moved to England to study theology there. The plight of the seamen in the local port of Sunderland led to a statute developed by Harms, according to which the general committee of the German Evangelical Seamen's Mission was founded in London in 1886. This implemented Wichern's idea to take care of the seafarers.

After founding the DSM Rostock eV in 1991 the seamans club "Hollfast" was opened.

Club work

In addition to the full-time employees, an FSJ or BufDi position will also be filled. Career orientation or diaconal internships are also possible. In addition, there are volunteers who work in the club, but also in the on-board service and in the transport service for the seafarers to and from the ships.

In 2018 around 5,500 guests visited the Rostock Sailors Club. The staff and volunteers carried out over 2,000 on-board visits, as not all seafarers always disembark in port.

On August 9, 2020, the seaman's deacon Stefanie Zernikow was introduced to her position as head of the Rostock seaman's mission as part of the 30th seafarer's service in the Warnemünder Church.

Furnishing

The club has a lounge equipped with games, musical instruments, WiFi and a kiosk for drinks and international newspapers, as well as telephones for contacting home and a small library. A sheltered terrace complements the equipment.
