history

In 1881, Kintarō Hattori started the watch and jewelry business Hattori Tokeiten (English later K. Hattori & Co., Ltd. ) in Tokyo. In May 1892 he also bought a disused glass factory in Ishiwara-chō, in the former Honjo district of Tokyo, and founded Seikōsha (精工 舎, German "precision work building") for the manufacture and production of clocks and wall clocks. From 1895 he manufactured pocket watches, from 1899 alarm clocks and finally wristwatches in 1913. In 1917 the company was organized as Kabushiki kaisha (K. Hattori & Co., Ltd.).

The year 1937 was important for the Seikosha company. In that year, watch production was spun off and subsequently traded as KK Daini Seikosha (literally: 2. Seikosha) (today's Seiko Instruments ). The company subsequently cooperated with other watch manufacturers, so the 1942 founded YK Daiwa Kōgyō ( 有限会社 大 和 工業 , Yūgen-gaisha Daiwa Kōgyō , English Daiwa Kogyo, Ltd. ). In 1959, the two companies merged to form KK Suwa Seikōsha ( 株式会社 諏 訪 精工 舎 , Kabushiki kaisha Suwa Seikōsha ), later Epson .

In 1970 the original Seikōsha company was separated from the Hattori Tokeiten company and changed its legal form. It traded from this point on as KK Seikōsha ( 株式会社 精工 舎 , Eng. Seikosha Co., Ltd. ). KK Seikosha in 1996 in the two companies Seiko Precision KK ( セイコープレシジョン株式会社, Seiko Pureshijon Kabushiki-gaisha , Eng. Seiko Precision Inc. ) and Seiko Clock KK ( セイコークロック株式会社, Seiko Kurokku Kabushiki-gaisha , Eng. Seiko Clock Inc. ) split.
