Seiryū (Asai-ha)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SEIRYU ( jap. 青柳 , dt. Green pasture ) is one of Tetsuhiko Asai created Karate - Kata . It is to be assigned to the Shōtōkan karate.

This kata is based on the Shōtōkan style propagated at the core of Asai's. Asai emphasized the greater use of the ligaments, tendons and joints of the human body combined with relaxation of the muscles. The body should create snapping techniques based on the principle of a multi-link whip. He called this method Jūjinhō ( 柔靭 法 , English flexibility method ).

Seiryū consists only of hand and arm techniques, which, atypical for the other Shōtōkan, which is mainly based on linear techniques, are performed in large circular movements. These movements are reminiscent of willow branches swaying in the wind, which is what gave the kata its name. The main techniques include the striking techniques Shutō-uchi and Haitō-uchi, which occur several times in combination. Other, rarely practiced in Shōtōkan, techniques are u. a. Ganken (hit with the thumb side), Mawashi-zuki and Naiwan-uchi (inner arm hit)
