Selma Gürbüz (2010).

Selma Gürbüz (* 1960 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish painter and sculptor .

Gürbüz studied at the Exeter College of Art Design, England, and at the Marmara University School of Fine Arts, Istanbul. She lives and works in Istanbul and Paris. In her work she processes dreams, longings and fantasies. In the 1990s she revived the magic of 1001 nights in solo and group exhibitions. To this end, she developed a new visual language to describe her cultural heritage. Fantasy creatures and dream scenes appear in front of abstract backgrounds. The roots of this art can be found in Persian and Arabic miniatures, Turkish painting from the tulip period and medieval manuscripts from Catalonia. Above all, the world of the Ottoman coffee houses has always inspired her in her work.
