Senate election in Haiti 2017

In the Senate election in Haiti in 2017 to the Senate of Haiti the first round on 20 November 2016 and the second round on 29 January 2017 took place.

Election result

The Parti Haïtien Tèt Kale (PHTK), which is close to the former President Michel Martelly , and its allies, in addition to the PHTK, these were Kid, Bouclier, KONA, AAA secured the majority of the 10 seats that were awarded when the Senate was renewed Third were up for election. Before the 2016 elections, these parties formed a parliamentary group called the Parliamentary Alliance for Haiti (APH), which now has a majority in both chambers, the Chamber of Deputies in addition to the Senate .

The 2016 and 2017 elections took place in parallel with the remaining runoff elections after the 2015 parliamentary elections and the presidential election. Jovenel Moïse (PHTK, supported by APH) was elected president and sworn in on February 7th, ending a one-year transitional presidency. During the election campaign, the major parties focused on socio-economic issues, promising job creation, fighting poverty, education and access to the health system for all.
