Polling

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The polling is a method of synchronization with the data transmission . The polling method is used, in which one partner periodically sends send calls to determine whether the other wants to send or can receive something. It is very computationally time-consuming, as it may be necessary to poll several times for a single transmission process. In contrast to the handshake , both communication partners are not equal. In particular, only the polling partner can initiate communication , the polled partner can only block communication.
