Senior Labor Inspectors Committee

The Senior Labor Inspectors Committee (SLIC) is a committee of the higher labor inspectors of the European Union , which the Community law is to enforce health and safety at work (89/391 / EEC) by the Member States.

Established in 1982, it aims to assist the European Commission in overseeing the enforcement of EU legislation at the local level. With Decision 95/319 / EC of the Commission in 1995 it was given formal status, combined with the mandate to submit statements to the Commission on request or on its own initiative.

The main objective of the committee is to achieve common principles in the field of labor inspection with regard to safety and health at work. So z. B. in the areas of verification (availability of effective sanctions) and prevention (availability of a wide range of technical expertise) as well as building up active cooperation with labor inspectorates in third countries .

The committee consists of the Commission and a representative of the labor inspectorate from each EU Member State. It meets every six months in the EU Member State holding the EU Presidency .
