Sepp Maier (local poet)

Josef "Sepp" Maier (born March 16, 1939 in Bruck an der Mur , Styria ) is a Styrian homeland poet and humorist.

Life

Josef Maier grew up in the Zlattengraben in Pernegg an der Mur as the son of the worker Josef Maier and his wife Wilhelmine. He first learned the profession of bricklayer. In 1978 he became a postman because he found inspiration for his poetic work through contact with the people of his home community. In 1961 he married Hemma Schmidt. Daughter Barbara and son Wolfgang emerged from the marriage.

Literary activity

In his poems with the facet “middle Murtal” of the Styrian dialect, Sepp Maier primarily takes a position on everyday reality. First he brought out five booklets with dialect poems and three in written language. He created three anthologies together with Hofrat Adler, four anthologies with Hans Prassl, and another three with dialect poems by Maier were published by the Association of Styrian Homeland Poets. Three books were published by Verlag für Collectors , which later became part of Leopold Stocker Verlag , in Graz. In addition, Maier publishes in the Kapfenberger Reibeisen .
