Seyed Chandān

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seyed Chandān ( slang for Persian سید خندان Seyed Chandan , DMG seyyed-e ḫandān , 'laughing Sajjid ') is a small district of Tehran northeast of the center, which is named after a famous intersection.

The name can be traced back to a well-known anecdote : According to this, an always happy and laughing man, called Seyed, owned a coffee house north of today's Seyed-Chandān Bridge on today's Dr. Ali-Schari'ati- Strasse , which at that time was still called "Alte Landstrasse" and connects the eastern center of the city with the northern parts of the city. Since the cars still needed a lot of time to cope with this route, the drivers usually took a break and used this opportunity to stop at Seyed Chandān, whose coffee house was halfway. In honor of the cheerful Seyed, they named the entire district after him.
