The Shōfuku-ji ( Japanese 正福寺 ), also Sashirosan Kanseon-ji ( 佐白山観世音寺 called), with the mountain names Sashirosan ( 佐白山 ) is a temple of the Buzan branch ( 豊山派 Buzan-ha ) of Shingon -Direction of Buddhism belongs. It is located at the foot of Mount Sashiro ( 佐 白山 Sashiro-san ) in Kasama ( Ibaraki Prefecture ), Japan. In the traditional census it is the 23rd of the 33 temples in the Kantō region .

history

According to tradition, the temple was founded in the 2nd year of Hakuchi ( 白 雉 二年 ) - 651 - and was the prayer temple of Kasama Castle on the top of Sashiro Mountain. When the castle was abandoned and demolished after the Meiji Restoration , the temple lost its patrons. Then in 1870 the temple was demolished as part of the forcible separation of Buddhism and Shintoism ( Shinbutsu-Bunri ). The main cult figure was entrusted to a neighboring temple until 1930, when the temple was rebuilt at its present location. For a time the temple was called "Sashiroyama Kanzeon-ji", then in 2012 it was given its current name.

Temple treasures

This thousand-armed Kannon ( 千手 観 音 Senju Kannon ) can fulfill a wide variety of requests. She gives the people Hakku yoraku ( 抜 苦 与 楽 ), "removal of worries, gift of joy". The production of the sculpture is estimated at the end of the Heian period . It was made by a student of Unkeis , as an investigation from the end of April 2019 showed .
