Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM) is part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and was founded in 1964. The focus is on laser technology, especially the development and operation of high-intensity lasers, quantum optics and their application. A total of 900 employees work at the SIOM, including 495 doctoral students and students in master’s courses.

In October 2018, an energy of 339 J was achieved for the first time in the Shanghai super-intense ultrafast laser facility (SULF) operated by SIOM , a 10PW laser currently under construction.
