Shemkhiya is a village in northern Sudan . In its vicinity in could in recent years, surveys various archaeological sites are observed, showing that the area around the site since the Neolithic was settled.

The remains of the Neolithic settlements were found on a small hill. There were four different post- Meroitic cemeteries (approx. 400–600 AD) with tumulus graves and some cemeteries from Christian times (up to approx. 1500). A fortress also dates from this period, the 4 meter thick walls of which were clearly visible. Another fortress was used in Christian times and then under the Fung .

The area was investigated by a Polish team from 2004 and has sunk in the lake of the Merowe Dam since early 2009 .
