Shemot Devarim
The Shemot Devarim , Ashkenazi Schemouß Deworim , Yiddish Schmojß Dworim , is a Yiddish - Hebrew - Latin - German dictionary written by Elijah Levita and published in Isny by Paul Fagius in 1542 . The title means "The names of things" in German.
The book consists of 32 sheets. It includes a Hebrew-Latin title page and a Latin foreword on the back of the title page. Most of the work offers a translation of Yiddish words into the three other languages from A to Z. In the remainder of the book, special subject areas such as diseases, medicines or job titles are translated. The last three pages explain Hebrew terms.
