Sherlock Holmes is the name of a sculpture by Gerald Laing . It was inaugurated in 1991 on Princes Street , Edinburgh . It is located on Picardy Place, where Arthur Conan Doyle , author of Sherlock Holmes , was once born. The fine details include two prints of dog paws on the base plate.
