Shinkendo

Shinkendō ( Japanese真 劍道) is a martial art that teaches the way of armed samurai fight . Shin (真) can be translated seriously, ken (劍) with sword and (道) with path. One possible translation would be Way of the Serious Sword . The katana is mainly used in this martial art . Toshishiro Obata is the founder and teacher in the Kokusai Shinkendō Renmei (International Shinkendo Association).

Shinkendō includes all aspects of sword fighting: Suburi (swinging exercises), Battoho (methods of sword drawing), Tanren Kata (individual forms), Tachiuchi (practice combat) and Tameshigiri (cutting tests ).
