Shong Lue Yang

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yang Shong Lue (* 1929 ; † 1971 , the family name is Yang) was the inventor of the Pahawh Hmong (a separate font for the Hmong people) and the Pahawh Khmu '(a separate font for the Khmu people, both peoples who live in the border area of Laos and Vietnam ). According to him, he got the inspiration for Pahawh Hmong during a dream. In 1959, Shong Lue Yang, who was originally illiterate himself , began to spread his writing and religious teachings in the villages of the border region.

Over time, the Vietnamese government was influenced by Yang, who now saw himself as the Messiah. He later fell under suspicion of the Hmong groups who support the Royal Government of Laos (including members of the Vang Pao Army) and Hmong groups who support the communist Pathet Lao . Through the bribery and order of General Vang Pao , Yang Shong Lue was murdered by Yang Nos Toom in Nam Chia village in 1971, shortly after the final version of the Pahawh Hmong was made .
