Shōwa Sanshoku

The Shōwa Sanshoku or Shōwa Sanke ( Japanese 昭和 三 色 , literally: " Shōwa three-colored") is a Nishikigoi (錦鯉, short form Koi ), a colored carp. It has a black base color, red spots ( Hi, "scarlet", also written "fire") and white spots ( Shiro ). In traditional shōwa, red is the dominant color, with black and white roughly in balance.

  • Hi Shōwa ( 火 昭和 ) - continuous, extensive red from head to tail, an even black (Sumi, "Indian ink") like an Utsuri and a little white
  • Boke Shōwa - the sumi is washed out and the transitions are not sharply delineated, making it look more gray
  • Tanchō Shōwa (丹 頂 昭和 ) - circular hi (red) on the head
  • Kindai Shōwa (近代 昭和, kindai means "modern") - white color predominates
  • Koromo Shōwa - Black merges with red in a mesh pattern
  • Doitsu Shōwa (独 昭和, literally: "German Shōwa") - a cross with a German carp, has a leather-like skin without scales
