Gallileo is a 136 meter high skyscraper on the corner of Gallusanlage and Kaiserstraße in the station district of Frankfurt am Main . The reinforced concrete skeleton and reinforced concrete composite building was started according to plans by Novotny Mähner Associate in 2000 and completed in spring 2003. Gallileo is written with a double L, derived from his address Gallusanlage 7.

history

Until 2008, the high-rise, together with the silver tower and the Gallusanlage 8 building, served as the Dresdner Bank headquarters . After Commerzbank took over Dresdner Bank , it continued to use the Gallileo high-rise as the new owner. In June 2010, the old, green Dresdner Bank logo was replaced with the new, yellow Commerzbank logo.

The lease with Commerzbank runs until 2029, but the bank can terminate it early in 2024.

The English Theater has been located in the basement of the building since 2003 . With 300 seats, it is the largest English-speaking theater on mainland Europe.

The skyscraper has 38 floors and 30,000 m² of office space for 1,500 workplaces. Shops, a bar and the English Theater are located on the publicly accessible ground floor .

The facade consists largely of glass. It has 400 individual windows that form an approx. 22,000 m² transparent outer skin. The windows can be opened parallel to the opening, thus breaking through the smooth surface in a characteristic way. (See picture on the right.)

The American artist James Turrell integrated red, green, blue and white glowing spotlights into the glass floors as part of his installation "Light Shaft II", which make the building "glow" from the inside in any color when it is dark. The light sources are structurally imperceptible. The undersides of the floor slabs serve as reflective surfaces.

owner

In 2013, the high-rise was sold to several South Korean institutional investors for 250 million euros. In 2018, the Singapore-based company CapitaLand acquired the skyscraper together with the investment fund CapitaLand Commercial Trust (CCT) for EUR 356 million.
