Sibalt

The Center for the Protection of Health and Social Support "Sibalt" (Russian Центр "Сибальт" охраны здоровья и социальной защиты ) is a non-governmental organization in Omsk, Russia , which is committed to helping people who have become infected with HIV .

The center is particularly aimed at gay men, drug addicts and prostitutes. It provides

  • consultation
  • Medical and psychological support
  • Legal support
  • Information events and programs for those affected
  • HIV tests
  • Information on preventing HIV infection and AIDS

Psychologists, educators, social workers, sociologists, lawyers, doctors and many volunteers work in the center. The center is largely funded by foreign organizations such as the American Foundation for AIDS Eesearch and Bread for the World. The Omsk City Administration gives little support.

history

In 1996 the "Siberian Alternative" center was founded in Omsk after the first cases of HIV infections became known there. In 2011 it was renamed the “Sibalt” center .

On February 15, 2016, it was registered by the Russian Ministry of Justice as an " Organization in the Function of a Foreign Agent ".
