Seventh of the Adar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to Jewish tradition, the Seventh Adar stands for the anniversary of the birth and death of Moses . Traditionally, it is believed that Moses was born in Adar aleph and died in Adar bet .

Orthodox Jews fast on Adar 7 and pray a special tikkun before the night or early morning synagogue reading. Traditionally Jewish funeral communities gather on this day .

According to the Bible ( Dtn 34.6  EU ) the place of death of Moses is unknown. Referring to this tradition, the day honored the fallen soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces whose bodies could not be found or identified. On the Herzlberg there is a memorial wall with the names of the fallen soldiers.
