The Sierra del Medio is a mountain range in the Argentine province of Chubut and has been proposed as one of several possible locations for the construction of a repository for high-level radioactive waste.

The site selection studies began in 1977. Later four preferred sites in granite formations were shortlisted. These were La Esperanza and Chasico in the province of Río Negro and Chalcatapul and Sierra del Medio in the province of Chubut. After analyzing the measurement data, Sierra del Medio near the town of Gastre, Chubut province, in the southern part of Argentina, was selected as a possible option. A first feasibility study was carried out. The exploration work has been going on since 1986, in some cases with violent protests from the local population who were not consulted. The national atomic energy agency CNEA has since postponed the project until 2030.
