Signo (phone)

Red sign from 1992

Signo is the name for two analog push-button telephones from Deutsche Telekom from the 1990s.

history

Until the beginning of the 1990s, telephones could only be obtained directly from the Deutsche Bundespost and had to be rented. When the so-called postal monopoly ended, the newly founded Deutsche Telekom took over the administration of the fixed network connections. Private users could now buy telephones from all manufacturers instead of having to rent devices from Swiss Post. Telekom also offered its own telephone, the Signo. It was manufactured between 1991 and 1996 and sold for 114  DM . The extended Signo 2 supplemented the offer from 1993 and finally replaced the Signo from 1996.

The devices

The manufacturer of the telephones was Siemens , who received the iF product design award at CeBIT 1991 . The Signo was available in the colors purple, ocean blue, dark brown, anthracite and old white. Other colors were limited custom-made products and not from Telekom.

On the top of the device are the number field and the buttons for the additional functions (microphone mute, setup button, redial and earth or flash button ). The setup key is required to make settings on the telephone. There is a removable plastic cover under the receiver, under which there is a slip of paper on which the numbers for the fire service, emergency calls and your own telephone number can be entered.

The Signo 2 also has an additional row of keys, a loudspeaker for open listening and a speed dial memory. The color dark blue was omitted.

There are now replicas of the Signo models from various companies. However, they are usually lighter than the original and less solidly constructed.
