Silicone oil bath

The silicone oil bath , also known as silicone oil bath , consists of a container filled with warm or hot silicone oil , in which there is another container with the substance to be heated. Silicone oil baths can be used universally and are used during the heating of substances in chemical laboratories for heating to 250 ° C . Below about 95 ° C , water baths are usually used because of the high heat capacity of the water and the resulting inertia, which favors precise automatic thermostatting.

Use in laboratories

As far as possible, no water should get into silicone oil baths, since otherwise the bath liquid will foam and splash unpleasantly when heated.
