Silvexan

Silvexan was a plant protection product manufactured and sold in the GDR . It was used to combat soil pests and biting insects and was based on the active ingredient lindane, which has since been banned because of its harmful environmental effects . Silvexan was manufactured by the VEB Elektrochemisches Kombinat Bitterfeld .

Silvexan acted as a touch poison, food poison and breath poison. The insecticide has been used against leaf-eating beetles such as cockchafer , poplar leaf beetle and willow leaf beetle . The caterpillars of a nun , Foreule , pine moth , processionary , bordered white and the larvae of the spruce sawfly were fought. For this purpose, Silvexan was applied as a dusting agent.

In order to combat grubs Silvexan came as litter middle part in preventive application is being used. The manufacturer stated that the duration of action was up to two years. In addition, Silvexan was also used in the form of strip poisoning . The insecticide had to be applied to the soil layer affected by the white grubs, or buried if necessary.
