Sima Jiong

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sima Jiong († 302 ) was a Chinese prince of the western Jin dynasty . He was one of the eight princes who fought against each other for power in ancient China in the War of the Eight Princes .

origin

Sima Jiong was a son of Sima You (248-283) and a great-grandson of Sima Yi . He held the title of Prince of Qi, which his father had previously held.

Role in the war of the eight princes

In 300, Sima Jiong joined Sima Lun's conspiracy against Empress Jia Nanfeng . Sima Lun, a brother of Emperor Jin Huidi , occupied the capital Luoyang with troops and arranged for Jia Nanfeng to be arrested and executed. For a short time Sima Lun then worked as Eminence Gray for the emperor, but apparently planned to take over the throne herself. Sima Jiong then rebelled against him together with Sima Yiong and was able to beat him militarily. Sima Lun was sentenced to death in 301. Sima Jiong worked in the central government in the following period, but could not stop the armed conflicts between the members of the ruling dynasty. Sima Yong rebelled against his reign a little later. Sima Jiong found a violent death in 302 at the hands of Prince Sima Yi († 303).
