Jin Huidi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jin Huidi (晋惠帝, Sima Zhong; * February 13, 259 ; † January 8, 307 ) was the Emperor of China from 290 to 306 .

He was the third son of the early Jin dynasty Emperor Jin Wudi and was appointed his successor at the age of 9. However, since he remained mentally behind, the emperor actually wanted to depose him as his successor. However, the decision was not made. The government business was mainly carried out by the Empress Dowager and her relatives, which led to great resentment and caused the War of the Eight Princes . After years of fighting, the Imperial Prince Sima Yue prevailed in 306 and became regent of Jin Huidi. Immediately after taking office, the emperor died from poisoned food. It is very likely that this was done on behalf of Sima Yue, but one motive is still not clear today.
