Roman Empire
- Emperor Gallienus decreed several changes in the power structures of the empire . Civil and military offices are being separated, and management positions are to be assigned more based on performance and less on the basis of privileges.
- 259/ 260 : Empire crisis of the third century : the Alemanni take abandoned by the Romans Agri Decumates ( "tithe land") in possession. After the abandonment of the Upper German-Raetian Limes, the area could no longer be held ( Limesfall ).
