- Imperial crisis of the 3rd century in the Roman Empire : The Roman Orient Army under Septimius Odaenathus succeeds in recapturing the province of Mesopotamia from the Sassanid Empire . Allegedly he even penetrated as far as the Persian capital Seleukia-Ctesiphon , but without being able to conquer it.
- The breakaway province of Egypt is recaptured by the Roman general Aurelius Theodotus. The counter-emperor Mussius Aemilianus and the rebel Memor are killed by him. Alexandria suffers severe damage during the fighting.
Culture and religion
- Emperor Gallienus is celebrating his tenth year since his accession to the throne in Rome with a spectacular procession of senators, equites , gladiators, soldiers, representatives of foreign peoples and other groups. There are games, feasts and entertainment.
- The Temple of Artemis in Ephesus , which is considered one of the seven wonders of the world , is destroyed by a raid by the Goths . It is already the third of the important buildings that is irretrievably lost. The remains of the structure are used as building material by the residents of the city. The cities of Magnesia am Meander and Miletus are also being devastated by the Goths and can never fully recover.
