  • Emperor Gallienus is celebrating his tenth year since his accession to the throne in Rome with a spectacular procession of senators, equites , gladiators, soldiers, representatives of foreign peoples and other groups. There are games, feasts and entertainment.
  • The Temple of Artemis in Ephesus , which is considered one of the seven wonders of the world , is destroyed by a raid by the Goths . It is already the third of the important buildings that is irretrievably lost. The remains of the structure are used as building material by the residents of the city. The cities of Magnesia am Meander and Miletus are also being devastated by the Goths and can never fully recover.
