Events
- Imperial crisis of the 3rd century in the Roman Empire : The Goths , accompanied by the Heruli , set out from the north bank of the Sea of Azov into the Aegean . Among other things, Crete , Athens, Rhodes and Cyprus are looted by them.
- Autumn: The Prince of Palmyra , Septimius Odaenathus , is killed in Herakleia Pontike . His assassination was presumably commissioned by the Roman emperor Gallienus . Odaenathus' son Vaballathus inherits his title "King of Kings", which makes him the practically self-sufficient ruler of the Roman province of Syria , but not the special powers that Gallienus had given his father. Due to his minority, his mother Zenobia took over the actual power as regent and soon went on a course of confrontation with the Romans.
Died
- Septimius Odaenathus , Roman military leader
- Septimius Herodianus , son of Odaenathus
- Maeonius , Roman usurper in Syria
