  • Emperor Claudius Gothicus places the Goths , who have plundered the Balkans for two years, near the town of Naissus . The Heruli, allied with the Goths, defected to him. In the battle of Naissus the Goths are crushed. As a result, Rome can secure its provinces in the Balkans again. Claudius II received the honorary title Gothicus Maximus and is henceforth known as "Claudius Gothicus".
