Roman Empire

  • Imperial crisis of the 3rd century : Gallienus tries to reverse the defection of the western provinces of Rome and attacks Postumus , the emperor of the Imperium Galliarum . On his first attack, Postumus is able to escape due to the carelessness of his cavalry commander Aureolus . During the subsequent siege of the emperor in a Gallic city, Gallienus is wounded by an arrow and has to break off the campaign. Gallienus will come to terms with the loss of the western provinces until the end of his rule.
