Roman Empire / Imperium Galliarum

  • Imperial Crisis of the 3rd Century : January: While trying to defend Italy against Alemannic plundering, the Roman Emperor Aurelian is ambushed by the Juthungen . His troops are defeated in the Battle of Placentia (today's Piacenza ).
  • When the Alemanni moved south on the Apennine Peninsula , Aurelian was able to capture them in the battle of Fano and put them to flight.
  • Aurelian can finally defeat the army of the fleeing Alemanni in the battle of Pavia . This will make Italia safe from Germanic invaders for the next 130 years.
  • Spring: Emperor Victorinus of the Imperium Galliarum is murdered by his officer Attitianus in the Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium , today's Cologne .
