Singaraja (formerly: Singaradja ) is the second largest city on the Indonesian island of Bali after the island's capital Denpasar .

Location and history

Singaraja is located in the north of the island on the coast and was the administrative center of the colonial province of Bali until Indonesia's independence. Today Singaraja is still the capital of the administrative district (and former kingdom) of Buleleng . The glamorous history of the city can still be seen well from the cityscape, which is largely characterized by typical colonial architecture. About 15 km from Singaraja is one of the tourist centers of Bali, also on the coast: Lovina , which consists of a number of former fishing villages .
