Single byte character set

The term Single Byte Character Set ( SBCS ) is sometimes used to designate character encodings that only use one byte to represent a character. The term SBCS is mainly used as a contrast to the Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) and the Multibyte Character Set (MBCS) .

The best known SBCS character set is probably the ASCII code.
