Sitorai Mohi Xosa is a castle in the Uzbek city of Buxoro that served as the summer residence of the last Emir of Buxoro . The castle is located about 5 kilometers north of the historic center of Buxoro in a park. The name means "place where the moon and stars meet".

history

In the middle of the 19th century, Emir Nasr Allah (reigned 1826–1860) had a summer palace built on this site for the first time, but it has not been preserved. Another emir later had a new castle built there and named it Sitorai Mohi Xosa after his wife Sitora. This castle was also torn down again. The current building was built in 1912–1918 under Alim Khan , the last Emir of Buxoro.

description

Even if the interiors are mostly not architecturally original and not particularly valuable, they provide a good insight into the way of life of the last rulers of Bukhara. Outstanding are the reception hall with murals by Khazanjan and the White Hall with stucco work and alabaster carvings by Shirin Muradow, which are not attached directly to the masonry, but on mirrors, which is why this hall is also called the Hall of Mirrors.

The castle houses a museum of applied arts, which shows carpets, embroidery, cloth, ceramics, porcelain, jewelry and weapons, among other things.
