Skandinaviska banks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Skandinaviska Banken , translated Scandinavian bank , was a Swedish bank founded in Gothenburg in 1864 .

Its foundation was in connection with the political efforts to unite Scandinavia , that is , to unite Sweden , Norway and Denmark into one kingdom. When this did not happen, the bank remained in existence due to the Scandinavian currency union (→ krona ) and to be prepared for a possible unification of Sweden and Norway.

The original name of the bank was Skandinaviska Kreditaktiebolaget , and was later changed to Skandinavska Banken . Even if the name used Scandinavian , it was actually a Swedish bank.

In 1910, through the merger with Skånes Enskilda Bank, the bank became one of the top Swedish banks. Skånes Enskilda Bank was founded in 1831 as a private central bank .

In 1945, the Skandinaviska banks had 1,770 employees working in 135 branches.

In 1972 it merged with Bank Stockholms Enskilda to form Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken .
