Skeletonization (medicine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In medicine, skeletonizing means separating an organ from neighboring structures with the aim of being able to mobilize the organ concerned.

For example, when designing a stomach tube after resected esophageal carcinoma, the stomach is dissected from the surrounding ligaments (e.g. ligamentum gastrolineale, ligamentum gatrocolicum) so that it can then be pulled up and anastomized with the rest of the esophagus .
