Roman Leonidowitsch Startschenko ( Russian Роман Леонидович Старченко ; born May 12, 1986 in Ust-Kamenogorsk , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh ice hockey player who has been under contract with Barys Astana / Nur-Sultan in the Continental Hockey League since 2008 .

Career

Roman Startschenko began his career as a hockey player at Barys Astana , for whom he made his debut in the Kazakh ice hockey championship in the 2003/04 season . The attacker then moved to their league rivals Kaszink-Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk , with whom he competed in the Kazakh championship as well as the Wysschaya League and Pervaya League over the next three years . With his team he won the Kazakh championship in 2005 and 2007 . For the 2008/09 season , Startschenko moved to Barys Astana from the newly founded Continental Hockey League , for which he has been playing since then.

International

For Kazakhstan , Startschenko took part in the junior division in Division 1 of the 2004 U18 World Junior Championships and Division I at the 2005 and 2006 U20 World Junior Championships . In the senior division, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2008 , 2009 , 2011 , 2013 , 2015 , 2017 and 2018 as well as in the World Championships in the Top Division in 2006 , 2010 , 2012 , 2014 and 2016 . As the top scorer with five goals and two assists, in 2013 he made a significant contribution to the Kazakhs' immediate promotion to the top division. His goals to make it 2-0 and 3-0 in the decisive game against Italy were particularly important . Also in 2015 he was the top scorer - together with his compatriots Kevin Dallman , Yevgeny Rymarew , Wadim Krasnoslobodzew and Konstantin Rudenko as well as the Hungarian Andrew Sarauer - and top scorer of the tournament for promotion to the top division. He was also voted best striker and the All-Star Team in 2015 and was named the most valuable player of the tournament and the best player in his team. In 2018 he was re-elected to the All-Star team as the top scorer and top scorer of the tournament.

In addition, he ran for Kazakhstan in the Olympic qualification for the Games in Vancouver 2010, 2013 in the Olympic qualification for the Games in Sochi 2014 and 2016 in the Olympic qualification for the Games in Pyeongchang 2018. At the Winter Asian Games 2011 he was the top scorer with ten goals and thus contributed significantly to the title win of his team.
