Vladimir Alexandrowitsch Markelow ( Russian Владимир Александрович Маркелов ; born August 31, 1987 in Novosibirsk , Russian SFSR ) is a Kazakh - Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Barys Astana / Nur-Sultan in the Continental Hockey League since 2016 .

Career

Vladimir Markelov began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of the HK Sibir Novosibirsk , for whose professional team he played in the super league from 2006 to 2008 . At the same time he appeared with Novosibirsk's second team in the third-class Pervaya League . When the Continental Hockey League replaced the Super League as the highest Russian division for the 2008/09 season , HK Sibir was also included in the new league and the attacker scored 14 goals in two seasons and provided seven assists. For the 2010/11 season he moved to HK Homel in the Belarusian extra league .

For the 2011/12 season Markelow returned to HK Sibir Novosibirsk in the KHL, but played only one game in this before he was given to the farm team Sauralje Kurgan from the Wysschaja Hockey League . In November 2011 he finally rejoined HK Homel from the Belarusian extra league.

From February 2016 Markelow was first used at HK Arlan Kökschetau in the Kazakh league , for the following season he returned to Barys.

International

During his time in Kazakhstan, Markelov, who is of Russian descent, also took Kazakh citizenship and has been eligible to play for the Kazakh national ice hockey team ever since . He took his new home country for the first time at the World Cup in 2016 in the top division in part, was the Kazakhs but the class does not hold, that he and his team in 2017 in the Division I ntrat. He also represented Kazakhstan in the Olympic qualification for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang .
