Career

Leonid Metalnikow began his career at Kaszink-Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk in his hometown, for whose second team he played in the third Russian league at the age of 16. During the 2010/11 season he moved to Gornjak Rudny from the Kazakh league. After he was back on the ice in 2012/13 with his home club, which now played in the Wysschaja Hockey League , he first played in the domestic league the following year at HK Ertis Pavlodar , who became Kazakh champions at the end of the season . Metalnikow left the club before the playoffs and returned to the Vysschaya Hockey League, where he played the season at Yuzhny Ural Orsk to the end. From 2014 he played again for Kaszink-Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk in the Vysschaja Hockey League before moving to Barys Astana from the Continental Hockey League in December 2015 . For Barys, however, he only appeared in four games and spent the rest of the season with Nomad Astana , the Barys farm team. Since 2016 he has been playing his regular club Torpedo in the Wysschaja Hockey League again.

In the 2018/19 season he played for HK Saryarka Karaganda in the Wysschaja Hockey League. At the end of the season he won the league's championship trophy , the Bratina Cup, with Saryarka . He was also named the best defender of the season.

In 2015 he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time and immediately rose with the team at the World Cup in Division I as a tournament winner in the top division. After the Kazakhs could not hold out there without Metalnikov, he played again in Division I at the 2018 World Cup .
